Teaching Churches

Teaching Churches is our new initiative describing an ongoing academic partnership between MB Seminary and a local congregation. These partnerships make it possible to provide church-based education and training to graduate students and other learners. The courses hosted at Teaching Churches are structured into a Certificate that can be completed in one academic year.

MB Seminary has developed multiple Certificates to help learners grow in their love for God and increase their effectiveness in ministry. Each Certificate is comprised of four courses that are designed for graduate students, but learners of any academic background can choose to enrol as a Continuing Education student or for personal interest.

Courses are available through MB Seminary online or through participation at one of our Teaching Churches. We invite you to explore how your church can partner with us to develop leaders and impact your community.

The Ministry Foundations Certificate is comprised of four courses aimed to provide a rich foundation for immediate ministry impact. Courses focus on helping leaders interpret and apply Scripture, lead with integrity and excellence, share the gospel, and make disciples in a maximum way—all from a Mennonite Brethren perspective. The courses from this Certificate are available during the 2022-23 academic year at Central Heights Church (Abbotsford, BC), SunWest Church (Calgary, AB), and online.

The Ministry Transformation Certificate is comprised of four courses developed to help ministry leaders cultivate relationships and develop tools for community discernment. The courses focus on developing skills for navigating conflict, building cross-cultural relations, applying the message of a New Testament book, and living out theological convictions—all from a Mennonite Brethren perspective. This Certificate is available in the 2022-23 academic year at Willingdon Church (Burnaby, BC).
