Pastoral Counselling
This course explores models of pastoral counselling in the context of pastoral/spiritual care ministry. The holistic integration of biblical, theological, and psychological perspectives in pastoral counselling is presented. Emphasis is placed on foundational counselling skills and processes within a framework of strategic, focused, short-term pastoral counselling. Lessons, supported by readings, group discussions, and presentations, will provide an understanding of the key issues and topics in pastoral counselling. In addition, increased focus on empathetic listening and reflection skills, knowledge of common mental disorders that those in ministry are likely to encounter, will also be developed.
CHP 530 is a required course in the MA in Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care and the Master of Divinity degrees. This course can be used as a general elective for the MA in Transformational Leadership and the Post-Masters Certificate in Spiritual Care.
