Spiritual Care for the Elderly
Students will review the concepts of spirituality/religion in the elderly and how the impact of
gerontological/physical changes will effect their ministry. Topics to be covered will include spiritual
assessment and care planning, dementia, the impact of life losses and anticipatory end-of-life issues.
The bio-psychosocial-spiritual implications of geriatrics will be reviewed with a discussion of appropriate spiritual care interventions.
CHP 680 can be used as a chaplaincy elective to fulfill requirements for the MA in Chaplaincy & Spiritual Care degree and the Post-Masters Certificate in Spiritual Care. This course can also be used as an elective for the MA in Transformational Leadership and the Master of Divinity degrees.
Gloria has a passion for the ministry of spiritual care. She believes that the ministry of Christian chaplains is to reveal that God is present in the varied circumstances of life, yet even more to share that God is not just present, but that he is active.
